Special Light-Sport Aircraft
The Quicksilver GT 500 posses a type certificate in USA, and this popular aircraft is sold as Experimental Amateur Build (kit) as well. Quicksilver is now pursuing the certification of the GT 500 original design with a new powerplant, the Rotax 912 ULS as Special Light Sport Aircraft.
An extensive gap analysis was developed comparing the criteria used to gain the primary category certification, versus what is required to comply with the ASTM consensus standards for light sport. Those gaps have been translated into complementary tests required for the design, and the flight testing required to certify the aircraft with the new powerplant.
The beginning of the testing is planned for Q3 but a significant portion of the work has been completed with the type certificate. The Quicksilver Quality System is already ASTM complaint which represents an important progress as well.
